My Cat Knows Me Better Than I Do

I guess I should sit up and take notice to her wise advice!

“How did you know that?” I asked my son, focusing on him in confused puzzlement.

I had taken my cat ‘Calico’ to the vet and he hadn’t been there.

“The cat told me,” was his innocent reply.

So began my interest in animal communication. Calli and I have had some interesting interactions over the years. The most recent was August 23rd, 2024 when I chatted to her after becoming very frustrated with daily ‘accidents’ under the shelf near her litter box.

She explained it was dark and she was scared and simply rushed her business.

I immediately went down and put a night light in the basement room that houses her litter box and there hasn’t been one miss since then. Not one!

Even I am amazed at this outcome and so have confidence I’m not just a crazy cat lady when I bid her goodnight, good-morning and tell her when and why I’m leaving the house.

This chat was long overdue.

In the approximately fifteen years I have owned Calico (or she has owned me) I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so directly. She nailed it and I feel a little exposed.

I decided to publish it anyway. Maybe my cat’s wise words will resonate with someone else as well.

Words in italics are mine.

Calico (aka Calli)

It’s about time you talked to me. I’m aware that you’ve been chatting away with all sorts of animals. I just don’t see the point.

I’d like to think there was a reason or a tangible benefit to you — and me for that matter.

Even that pesky Ginger May. (My daughter’s cat).

I would just like to say that I’m an understanding cat for all this. I appreciate that you include me and let me know what’s going on.

Too many animals do get ignored in the things that matter. Nobody stops to ask them the simplest things that affect their lives. The energy in the world would be much more vibrationally sound if animals were acknowledged more for their wisdom and insight.

We are relegated to mere pets, like some ornamental talisman that people collect. A charm bracelet of loyal devotion and charming, but useless, interaction.

If I had my way, there would be more consideration given to gifted animals like myself. We really do have a lot of insight and wisdom to offer.

I know, for example, that you like your coffee more than being productive working on your business. I know that you tend to shut down when the going gets tough. I know your routine is more important than finding new and interesting things to fill your days.

I hope you will accept my advice to get out a bit more and experience life. A comfort zone is all well and good but it is not always the most expansive way to spend a life.

You have a lot more going on than you give yourself credit for. I can see the path this is taking you on better than you can and I think your persistent diligence will pay off, if you would just focus a little more on the important things.

It can be terrifying to walk alone into the unknown but at just one step a day a broader view will be exposed and you will realize that it’s not as scary as you had anticipated.

Forgive my blunt intrusion at expressing my thoughts so aptly, but we have been on life’s journey quite a while now. I see you and I believe in you.

Do you remember in Australia we sat in this same place? Me on your lap and you writing up a storm.

It’s time to make your written words count and so I think you’re heading in the right direction.

“Indeed,” I respond a little lost for words.

Indeed. Oh, and I like the new cat food. It’s a good change.

“You’re welcome.”

Calli is content.

She smiles.
